My sister Becky and I have always loved sunflowers. They are just so happy and can brighten the most gloomy of days. I love flowers of all types but sunflowers certainly stand out to me and I always stop to look at them even if I don't buy them.
The other day I was making a birthday card for my friend and I asked the Lord what I should write about her. He said something along the lines of, "She is like a sunflower, always finding the sun even in the midst of trials." I wrote that in her card and gave it to her but it wasn't until later that the phrase came to life. Our pastor had us pray for her after service and as I laid my hands on her, God gave me a vision of her with her face heavenwards and she was absolutely beaming. It was the most beautiful sight. The Lord told me that as she gazed at the Son, she reflected His strength and beauty. The best way I can describe it is how Exodus 34:29 describes Moses' face after being with the Lord.
When we were done praying, I told her the vision and what God had said. I also included one little fact I remembered about sunflowers... that no matter where they were growing, they look for the sun to face it.
Sunflowers stand out. They are bright and cheery and cannot be confused for any other flower. They are so similar to the sun that even their petals are called "rays". They symbolize adoration, longevity, and loyalty.
I've decided I want to be like a sunflower. Who's with me?
”Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun.” - Ecclesiastes 11:7
I want to be someone who gazes so much at her King that she looks just like Him. That's how it should be right? We should be radiant and dazzling just like our Maker. Our light should shine in the dark places and our face should be so radiant with love that people notice without us even speaking a word. Every trial and every hardship should not hinder us but cause us to keep our gaze fixed on Jesus.
“She is like a sunflower, always finding the sun even in the midst of trials.”
